Delhi Police is one of the most reputed administrative organizations in India. This department has got around 76000 personnel who are working round the clock to ensure safety of the citizens in India. There are four levels of entering the work force of Delhi Police. The list of entry-level posts is following:
1. Officer- To enter the officer cadre one must pass the Civil Services exam of the Union Public Service Commission of India with decent rank and opt for Indian Police Services. The upper age limit for these jobs is 30 years.
2. Sub Inspector- They are directly recruited by Delhi police after proper written, physical and medical test, applicant must be graduate degree holder and meet the minimum physical requirements. The upper age limit for these jobs is 25 years or 28 years depending on the type of vacancy.
3. Assistant Sub Inspector – This entry is meant for recruiting stenographers and technical diploma holders.
4. Constable: This recruitment is open for all the candidates who are between the age of 18 to 21 years and have completed their 10+2 education.
Physical Requirements for the post of Constable and Sub Inspector:
Male candidates must have height of minimum 170 cm and chest of 81 cm with minimum expansion of 4 cm. Female candidates must have height of 157 cm. Besides external features candidates must not suffer from any disease which may hinder their movement or senses to such an extent that they may not be able to perform their duties successfully.
Physical Efficiency Test of Constables and Sub Inspecto
Male Candidates are required to run the distance of 1600 meters in 6 minutes. Those who qualify the running event are required to clear long jump of 14 feet and high jump of 3 feet 9 inches.
Female Candidates are required to run the distance of 1600m in 8 minutes or less. Those who qualify the running event will get three chances to clear long jump of 10 feet and high jump of 3 feet.

The written paper for the post of Sub Inspector consists of the questions from following topics:
General Studies and Current Affairs
Reasoning Ability
Numerical Ability
Questions asked in the written exams are quite easy and anyone who has studied the books of standard 8th , 9th and 10th of Central Board of Secondary Education can easily qualify the exam. Candidates who score above 60 percent in the written exams have fair chances of getting short listed for final recruitment.
Career Prospects and Emoluments:
Anyone who joins Delhi Police as constable has fair chances of becoming a sub inspector after passing the promotional tests and maintaining decent career record. As far as salary or compensation is concerned the starting salary of the constable is around Rupees 150000 per year. This salary includes the basic benefits like dearness allowance, house rent allowance, transport allowance etc.
Those joining the force as Sub Inspector have fair chance of becoming Assitant Commissioner of Police depending upon their performance. The starting emolument of Sub Inspector is around Rupees 20 thousand to 25 thousand.
